How would you begin to build it? Would you buy a NAS solution (e.g ReadyNAS) or build something from the ground up?īonus question: Right now I am using a remote host with an upload of 100mb but the CPU is not great (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570S CPU 3.10GHz). Is the technology that far behind that we can't stream to multiple people without needing an infrastructure similar to what Netflix has?Īssuming we have a budget of 3000 USD to spend on this server. It seems like nothing out in the market would support this. I am looking to be able to stream to multiple people at once, lets say around 6 people who will potentially be watching HD content. What's a bit concerning is that the server they recommend (when you look it up in their compatibility sheet) can't even properly transcode 1080p, and that's just for one stream.

I have been looking at different NAS products out on the market, including the ReadyNAS 212 which was recommended in the last Plex newsletter that was sent out ( ). I am looking to invest on building a server dedicated to Plex.
